"Tender Mercies" I took my brother, Richard, to see this film
starring Robert Duvall. God ministered to us in a profound way that afternoon.
Here are some scripture references which
have bearing on this song: 1 Peter 2:19-25; Titus 2:11-15; Titus 3:3-7 (below)

Tender Mercies
Tender Mercies
There are times when there ain’t nobody to turn to
It’s those times that the Master referred to
When He said, “Come unto Me all who are weary”.
People will talk; they’ll hurl insults at you
When you’re only doing what God’s called you to do
Just remember, remember, Jesus went through that too.
Through the Lord’s tender mercies I have found the Life that once was lost
Through the Holy Spirit stirring I know I can start anew
And follow through by the truth of His Word
Jesus was stripped; Whipped; They mocked
and ridiculed Him.
But in the midst of
persecution, He prayed, “Father forgive them.”
Still He calls, “Come unto
me…and I will show you mercy…”
Tender
mercies.
Guitar Solo: Greg Brayton (
Through the Lord’s tender mercies I have found the Life that once was lost
Through the Holy Spirit stirring I know I can start anew
And follow through by the truth of His Word
There was a time when I didn’t know of the victory.
Deceived and Enslaved by the passions within me…
Then I called called on His name and Jesus showed me mercy
Tender
Mercy.
People may talk; They’ll hurl insults at you.
Make sure that you’re doing
what God’s told you to do
And remember, remember, Jesus
died for them too.
Through the Lord’s tender mercies I have
found the Life that once was lost
Through the Holy Spirit stirring I know I can start anew
And follow through by the truth of His Word.
19For it is commendable
if a man bears up under the pain of unjust suffering because he is conscious of
God. 20But how is it to your credit if you receive a
beating for doing wrong and endure it? But if you suffer for doing good and you
endure it, this is commendable before God. 21To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that
you should follow in his steps. 22“He
committed no sin, and no deceit was found in his mouth. 23When they hurled their insults at him, he did not retaliate; when he suffered, he
made no threats. Instead, he entrusted himself to him who judges justly. 24He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, so
that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have
been healed. 25For you were like sheep going astray,
but now you have returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.
11For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared
to all men. 12It teaches us to say “No” to
ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and
godly lives in this present age, 13while we wait for
the blessed hope–the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior, Jesus
Christ, 14who gave himself for us to redeem us from
all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager
to do what is good. 15These, then, are the
things you should teach. Encourage and rebuke with
all authority. Do not let anyone despise you.
3At one time we too were foolish, disobedient, deceived and enslaved by all kinds of passions and pleasures. We
lived in malice and envy, being hated and hating one another. 4But when the kindness and love of God our Savior
appeared, 5he saved us, not because of righteous
things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing
of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, 6whom he
poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, 7so that, having been justified by his grace, we might
become heirs having the hope of eternal life.
